We became the proud owners of this beautiful Victorian-style home in 2012 after searching for over three years in the Ottawa area for our ideal place where we could open our own Bed and Breakfast and finally opened our B&B in Carp/Ottawa.
A previous trip to Ireland was our inspiration, where we crossed the country staying in different bed and breakfasts along the way. As avid and well world-traveled individuals, both personally and professionally, having stayed in many moderate to high end as well as less desirable accommodations, we were inspired by the hospitality and uniqueness of each B&B. We loved the character of, as well as the personal attention and intimacy, not to mention the delicious breakfasts, that we experienced at each place, so different from staying in a hotel! We decided that everyone should experience this type of accommodations at least once in their lives and we want to help make that happen!
So, after finishing our contracts as serving members with the Canadian Armed Forces, we embarked on our next journey as entrepreneurs.
We searched and searched for that ideal place that existed in Shelley’s mind that was inspired by a ceramic piece and a painting by Thomas Kincaid, the American “Painter of Lights”, called the Holiday Bed and Breakfast. And finally, we found it one day in a real estate magazine! We went to see it and a week later, the deal was signed! You will enjoy our inspiration artwork as you enjoy one of our signature breakfasts by candlelight and will see the ceramic inspirational pieces when you visit around the Christmas season.
Once it was ours, we spent two months of renovations before we moved in to meet our ideals of what we wanted in a B&B, things that are important to us as travelers. We took down walls and put up new ones, took up existing flooring, and put in hardwood and porcelain floors throughout as it is important to us to keep allergens to a minimum and cleanliness is a priority for us. We added two brand new bathrooms so that each room has its own bathroom and renovated the other existing bathrooms. Many other areas were renovated/upgraded both inside and out, including the kitchen, over the past few years, and adding details here and there never stops!
Our goal is to be your hotel alternative! We offer quality accommodations, delicious breakfasts, and first-class service at a reasonable price to those who enjoy being pampered in the serenity of nature. We opened our doors in June 2013 and since then, we have enjoyed welcoming and pampering our guests, both new and returning, to our B&B in Carp/Ottawa.
We chose our name, The Boston “T” B&B as a play on words. We have been proud parents of Boston Terriers who were our inspiration for naming our rooms and became part of our branding, and Shelley is an avid tea lover! Our current two little Boston Terriers, Princesse and Daisy, are rescues who have graced us with their love and friendly nature. They also love welcoming our guests and delight in any extra attention that comes their way, however, they will only say hello to you if you’d like to meet them.
We pride ourselves on helping our guests to have the best stay possible, acting as Concierge and advising you on the best places to visit, and sharing some of the hidden gems of Ottawa and the National Capital Region (NCR) that many visitors to the area may miss!
When you walk in the front door at the Boston T B&B, the weight of the world will fall off your shoulders. You will immediately have that comfortable feeling – you know the one- where you can walk around without shoes, chill out in the gardens or curl up on the sofa or front porch with a good book and let your troubles just melt away……..
The lounge provides an open, bright, warm and inviting space for our guests to relax and on cooler days you can curl up by the fire. In warmer weather you can enjoy the beautiful grounds, pool or wrap around porch, the perfect places to take it easy and unwind. Can you imagine yourself here?
You will enjoy a great night’s sleep in one of our peaceful and beautifully furnished guest bedrooms, each named after one of our previous Boston Terriers, before enjoying a delicious, freshly prepared breakfast by candlelight in the morning.
Our aim is for you to leave the Boston T B&B feeling relaxed and rested, and there’s plenty of opportunities for you to do just that! It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words, but many of our guests tell us that pictures do not do justice to our little piece of paradise. Come and try us!
